Winter Meeting & Supper Monday, January 8 5:50 - 7:30 p.m. Everyone Welcome More Events... |
What is d.g. and what was it doing at the fall workday? D.g. is short for decomposed granite, the pathway paving material used at the Demonstration Forest (DF). On November 18, volunteers gathered at the DF to repack the pathway and get it in tiptop shape for winter. Undaunted by the piles (mountains) of d.g. before them, the crew wasted no time as they dug into the job at hand. While the d.g. crew toiled, others were tending the trees and planting more natives to enhance the landscape. The DF looks great thanks to: Mark and Christopher Tomes; Cal, Tami, Kailyn & Shaley Gunther; David & Joseph Arndt; Ruben Salcedo (new worker - welcome Ruben!); Chris, Karen, Alison & Lauren Starke; Janice Severn; John Wyman (new worker - welcome John!); George Sullivan (d.g. coordinator); Mark Elliott; Simone & Justin Smith (planting/pruning director); & Beverly Gingg. And, for those piles of d.g., we thank: 5th District Supervisor Mike Ryan & Assistant Debbie Arnold, Whitaker Contractors, Inc., & Hanson Aggregates. Last, but not least, thanks to The Educated Gardener for donating natives (including Toyon, Ceanothus, Douglass Iris, & California Poppy (seeds) & planting them. Caring for the DF is a year-round job and your help is needed. To find out more, please contact Cheri Roe, DF care coordinator, at 438-5625. |
