During April and May, school children representing six area classrooms will be participating in guided nature walks and hands-on oak explorations in Santa Margarita’s community forest. “Treechie” will be helping (thanks to Eric Greening and Claire Crocker!) Simone Smith and Beverly Gingg make this a tree-riffic learning experience. So, if you see a big, lovable tree walking down I St. with a group of wide-eyed children, you’ll know what’s happening.

The second edition of “The Trees in Santa Margarita’s Forest ~ A Walking Tour and Local Selection Guide” will soon be published. Support for this project is included in our grant award from California ReLeaf. Special thanks to Simone Smith, Cheri Roe, Jim Patterson, Rick Matthews, and cooperating homeowners for providing various forms of assistance with guide development. Hope to have these available in May for pick-up at the Santa Margarita Library or The Educated Gardener.

What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare? No time to see, when woods we pass, where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
